The Vanni Archive of Art and Architecture is a long-term photographic record of built culture, established in the early 1980s and continuously enriched with new material. The archive comprises over 100,000 images documenting more than 4,000 culturally, historically, and artistically significant monuments across 33 countries. Spanning from antiquity to the modern era, the collection encompasses world-famous landmarks alongside lesser-known sites, approached with sustained editorial attention and a documentary rigor shaped over decades of fieldwork.
The archive includes monuments, archaeological sites, civic spaces, vernacular architecture, and an extensive body of sculpture, much of it photographed in situ and already outlined within the collection. While approximately 12,000 images are currently digitized, the archive extends far beyond what is immediately accessible online. For specific or obscure subjects, original material is often available and can be digitized on request, allowing access to a depth of coverage that reflects the archive’s long historical reach.
Images from the Vanni Archive have been widely published in print and digital contexts across art history, architecture, archaeology, and travel. The archive is represented in North America by Art Resource, one of the world’s leading image agencies for fine art, architecture, and historical photography.
